The Finnish Olympic Committee confirms that it will commission an external report Mika Lehtimäki handling of a case of harassment. This external study is carried out by a body other than the Finnish Sports Ethics Center (SUEK).

In its report to the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Olympic Committee acknowledges that Lehtimäki’s election for the next term as head of the top sports unit was “ethically and morally problematic”.

In addition, the Olympic Committee acknowledges that the goal of trust and satisfaction generated by the operation was not achieved when Lehtimäki was elected for the next term.

The ministry asked the Olympic Committee to clarify whether its rules were in line with the principles of good governance.

In March, Urheil said that Lehtimäki, who headed the top sports unit, had received a warning in the autumn about inappropriate behavior against women. Lehtimäki resigned at the turn of March-April.

The Olympic Committee will hold a discussion event in May to which its sub-federations will be invited. Sports federations have expressed a desire to be involved in ordering an external survey.

The Olympic Committee wants to increase transparency and has decided to publish the minutes of the Board meetings in the future.
