If you’re not afraid of Gen G before LoL Worlds 2023, you can’t help it. The co-favorites for the League of Legends world title look stronger than ever. Their mid laner Chovy (22) in particular seems to be in top form before the World Cup. He broke the all-time Korean server ranking record.
Who is the favorite for LoL Worlds 2023?
Chovy is about to replace Faker:
“Our Lord and Savior Chovy” is playing the 5th World Cup in a row
Who is this and why is he such a monster? Chovy (now 22) came onto the scene in 2018 when the controversial coach CvMax, who also sometimes chokes players, discovered him for his team Griffin.
When the team collapsed as a result of a scandal, Chovy moved the coach to Dragon X out of loyalty to CvMax until that also collapsed. He then worked for Hanwha Life as a “one-man demolition contractor” for 1 year.
Chovy was the strongest player on all 3 teams, but didn’t have enough help to go far at Worlds. Nevertheless, he made it to the Worlds with all 3 teams, which is considered a great success: Because it is not that easy to consistently assert yourself against the strong competition in South Korea.
Since 2021, Chovy has been playing for Gen G., one of the strongest teams in South Korea. There he became champion in 2022 together with 2 other players from “Team Griffin” days: top talent Doran and supporter Lehends.
The supporter Lehends and the world-class ADC Ruler are now gone, but Gen G. is still excellent because they have a prodigy in the team in botlaner Peyz and a veteran in jungler Peanut who has already served under Faker.
Chovy has now developed into a monster in the midlane. In the West, a community has even formed that speaks of him only as “Our Lord and Savior Chovy.”
He has now broken this record: Chovy broke the LCK’s record for most points before Worlds. As of 2008, he has 200 points than the runner-up, no one has ever had more LP on the Korean servers.
This is also so impressive because for the World Cup, many top players from other countries flock to the solo queue on the Korean server, which is considered the hardest in the world.
Chovy has played 305 games, winning 62% of them. His top characters were Yone, Jayce, K’sante, Azir and Sylas.
After Gen G. has often been unfortunately eliminated in recent years, most recently in the semi-finals, 2023 could be Chovy’s Worlds – if his old colleague Ruler doesn’t intervene.
Ruler will play for JD Gaming in 2023, the top favorite, and Chovy will probably have to beat them if he finally wants to win his first world title.
