While waiting for the February cumulative update, Microsoft is offering patch KB5008353 for Windows 11 users. Among other things, this includes system changes to resolve slowdown issues that some users have experienced with their hard drives or their SSDs.
These problems have been reported since last July and had in theory been corrected by the December 2021 cumulative update. Indeed, a bug in Windows 11 triggered unnecessary actions during write operations, which caused slowdowns. But it seems that wasn’t the only problem to fix and users continued to complain about slow data storage.
Microsoft has therefore continued its investigations and the optional update KB5008353 should put an end to these concerns. For this, it fixes a bug in the USN (Update Sequence Number) journal of the NTFS file system. It also fixes other bugs, including one that affects File Explorer performance and another that disrupts the taskbar display.
If you notice problems with your PC’s hard drive or SSD slowing down under Windows 11, you can download the patch directly from the Microsoft website. If not, it will be included in the next cumulative OS update, which is scheduled for February 8.
