The Redmond firm has just released a lighter version of its messaging client for Android.

Microsoft’s Outlook email now has a “lite” version on Android. Microsoft has formalized the arrival of a lighter version of its messaging application on Android by updating its roadmap. In the process, the Redmond firm published Outlook Lite on the Google Play Store. However, the application is not yet available in France.

This light version of Outlook incorporates the main functions of the classic application. It thus gives access to messaging, allows you to access and manage events in the calendar, or even easily find your contacts since it also gives access to the address book.

Outlook Lite is thus much lighter than the original application and takes up much less space. It weighs in fact only 5 MB. Less resource-intensive and less energy-intensive, the application is perfectly optimized to run on devices with a modest configuration. Microsoft indicates that it can run smoothly on devices with only one gigabyte of RAM.

In addition, Outlook Lite has been designed to work in areas where the Internet connection is poor. The Redmond firm indicates that it is possible to use it with 2G and 3G connections.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has released a lite version of one of its tools. In 2017, the American company launched Skype Lite, an application initially deployed in India. Before Microsoft, other major players have also offered light versions of their mobile applications on Android to conquer emerging markets. Among these, Meta had for example offered Facebook Lite, Messenger Lite or Instagram Lite. More recently, TikTok has also released its mobile application in a lite version, lighter, faster and less resource-intensive.
