Microsoft wants to make Teams an essential communication tool in companies. The Redmond firm has just unveiled Viva Engage, a new application built on the basis of Yammer. Integrated… in Teams, it should allow employees of the same company to have access to an internal social network.
“Viva Engage brings people together across the company to connect with bosses and co-workers, find answers to questions, share unique stories, and find a sense of belonging at work,” Microsoft said on its blog. .
A true corporate social network, Viva Engage aims to create communities and provide employees of companies using Teams with Microsoft 365, new conversation and expression tools. The application therefore integrates directly into the sidebar of Teams and sports an interface that seems largely inspired by that of Facebook.
It is thus possible to publish statuses accompanied by photos, and even to publish stories, as on Facebook or Instagram. It is also possible to comment on everyone’s publications, or to organize virtual events. As on any social network, it is possible to subscribe to the profile of colleagues to follow their news and exchange more personally with them.
Viva Engage will be accessible from the Teams Desktop app as well as from the Android and iOS mobile apps. Microsoft plans to roll out its enterprise social network to all of its business users at no additional cost.
Unfortunately, as usual, Microsoft’s communication on the arrival of Viva Engage and the future of Yammer is a bit confusing. If we are to believe what the firm indicates on its site, the content created on Yammer will also be visible on Viva Engage and vice versa. In addition, the Viva Engage brand should permanently replace Yammer in Teams from the end of August.
