In recent months, Microsoft seems to be stepping up its efforts to catch up on the competition in order to transform Windows 11 into an operating system that is as practical as it is pleasant to use. A few days ago, the Redmond firm formalized its intention to deploy tabbed browsing in its file explorer and unveiled upcoming improvements for the Start menu, now able to classify your applications into folders.
But to offer Windows additional advanced features, Microsoft has another string to its bow, the PowerToys. And this tool could very soon include an extremely practical feature, Quick Look, directly inspired by what exists on macOS. In any case, this is what a post published on Reddit by a member of the Microsoft Photos app development team.
MSFT-SAM, the author of the message, explains that during a week of the hack at Microsoft, he and his colleagues developed the prototype of a file preview tool for Windows. Supporting video, they integrated it into Microsoft’s PowerToys and named it “Peek”, which literally means Peek.
This feature, which is reminiscent of the feature of the same name on macOS, would be activated natively using a keyboard shortcut configured by default on the Shift + Space key combination that the user could quite customize according to their needs.
By unveiling his project on Reddit, the author of the post hopes to receive positive feedback on his prototype to, hopefully, integrate it soon into a future PowerToys update.
