Microsoft is testing a feature that automatically loads data from Chrome into Edge

Microsoft’s browser may, when it starts, automatically import data from Chrome such as open tabs, passwords, extensions and settings.

Microsoft is testing a new feature in the Canary (beta) version of its Edge browser to appeal to Chrome users. By going to the new settings page, it is possible to activate the automatic import of data from Chrome when launching the browser (click on the image below to enlarge).

You choose which elements will be imported (passwords, cookies, extensions, history, means of payment, etc.). Note that the image below shows that favorites and extensions are not yet taken into account in the Canary version. In particular, Edge will be able to import the tabs you have open in Chrome and display them in a specific area (Imported tabs in the image below).

The import will also work for browser settings. Which means that any changes you made in Chrome will automatically be reflected in Edge. Note that this automatic startup import function only works with Chrome.

Currently, Edge allows importing data from Chrome and Firefox, but this operation must be initiated manually by going to the browser settings.

With this new function, Microsoft is trying to convince users of Chrome, which is very popular on Windows, that they can perfectly continue their work on its browser. It remains to be seen if this process will be activated by default in the future and if it will also concern Firefox.
