Microsoft regularly cleans out Windows and replaces old functions. This time the US company is probably focusing on the system control, which will soon disappear. And soon means fall 2024.
As colleagues from br.IGN report, one of Microsoft’s most important plans is to retire the Windows control panel. In recent years, many gamers may have configured settings using this tool or the Windows tab. And since 1994, the “Control Panel” has been an elementary part of Microsoft’s operating system.
But since Windows 11, Microsoft has integrated many functions in other areas or completely changed settings. And with that, Microsoft says goodbye to the popular function.

The Control Panel will disappear from Windows 11 in the long term because the functions are moving
When will the update come? The next update for Windows 11 is version 24H2 and is scheduled to be released in fall 2024. This is a so-called “feature update”: These updates add new features and functions to Windows and are usually released once a year. Otherwise there are only security updates and bug fixes.
With the next update, the management of fonts, energy (for laptops) and storage space will be moved to the Settings tab. This will cause the functions to disappear from the Control Panel.
In the long term, the Control Panel under Windows 11 is likely to disappear completely sooner or later. Because the US company continues to diligently rebuild its operating system. To the chagrin of people who have become accustomed to certain menus and settings.
By the way, this doesn’t come as a complete surprise, because according to the French colleagues at Jeuxvideo, the system control was only supposed to be “temporary” anyway. And at least for 30 years.
