Microsoft confirms it still has a lot of work to

In a webcast with Insider Program testers, the Windows 11 development team gave some hints about the evolution of the system taskbar. It was completely rebuilt from scratch. As a result, not all functions are present in the current version yet.

Thus, the possibility of dragging and dropping files on the taskbar, to open them, is one of the priority functions and should arrive in version 22H2 of Windows 11. Microsoft also intends to optimize the notification area, located at right in the taskbar, to better adapt it to tablets and PCs with touch screens.

On the other hand, other functions are no longer on the agenda for the moment, because Microsoft considers them less important. Thus, the editor ignores the contextual menu that appears when you right-click on the taskbar. This menu, present in Windows 10, is unfortunately absent in Windows 11, and replaced only by access to the taskbar settings.

More annoying, it is still not possible to change the position of the taskbar. For the development team, most users are satisfied with the positioning at the bottom. Also, the animations needed for this type of function are not yet ready. For now, the only way to change the position is to modify a value in the system registry, which is not practical at all.

Remember that the new functions of Windows 11 that are offered for testing in the Dev channel of the Insider program are experiments that do not necessarily result in the final versions of the operating system.
