Microsoft Announces It Will Lay Off 1900 People From Activision Blizzard

Layoffs by major technology companies continue to increase. Microsoft is laying off 1,900 people from Activision Blizzard.

Microsoft announced that it will lay off nearly 1,900 employees from Activision Blizzard, which it recently acquired.

Microsoft Announces Layoffs

Microsoft announced this week that Activision Blizzard and Xbox have decided to lay off a total of 1,900 employees. This decision draws attention in addition to the massive layoffs until 2024 of technology companies that cannot achieve the expected performance, especially in the post-pandemic period.

The cuts make up about 8% of the overall Microsoft Gaming division and will mostly impact Activision Blizzard.

Microsoft stated that Blizzard President Mike Ybarra and Chief Design Officer Allen Adham also left the company, and a previously announced survival game from Blizzard was also canceled.

Communications Workers of America (CWA) said in a statement, “Microsoft’s announcement that it plans to lay off 1,900 game developers shows that there is no job security, even if you work for an extremely large company. Microsoft Isn’t the Only One Making Layoffs

According to reports from Layoffs, in January 2024, 76 technology companies announced that more than 21,000 employees in total would be laid off.

Additionally, other major companies such as Alphabet, Google, Amazon and eBay have also decided to lay off thousands of employees in recent weeks in order to reduce costs and increase profitability.
