Microids formalizes the development of the video game fans speculate

By posting this tweet-riddle Friday at the end of the day, Microids knew full well that the world of pop-culture was going to find that it was indeed Cobra who was hiding behind this mosaic image. The French publisher has also decided to confirm that it is indeed the space pirate who will therefore be entitled to its video game adaptation. In the freshly sent press release, Microids specifies that pre-production has just started and that the game will arrive on PC and consoles, without specifying the exact media. Knowing the publisher’s habits, we imagine that all platforms are concerned, including Switch. To do this, it is specified that a publishing agreement has been signed between Microids and the production company TMS to make this video game based on Buichi Terasawa’s manga. Created in 1978, the cult manga Cobra was quickly adapted into a cartoon, broadcast on Antenne 2, TF1 but also Canal+ and captivated several generations of viewers with its iconic hero with a Delta ray on his left arm. But it was also the seductive personality of the character of Cobra who hit the bull’s eye at the time, charming, funny and sometimes awkward (with women), but terribly charismatic. At Microids, we welcome such an adaptation, which allowed Stéphane Longeard, CEO of Microids to leave a few words about this collaboration:

We are delighted to be working on this adaptation of Cobra, a legendary anime that has marked millions of viewers around the world. We are committed to respecting the universe and the characters created by Buichi Terasawa, while offering an immersive gaming experience that is faithful to the spirit of the series. The Cobra game promises to be a great adventure for fans and players looking for a rich and captivating universe.

For his part, Tadashi Takezaki, CEO of TMS Entertainment is also delighted with this partnership and declares “that he was impressed by the passion and professionalism of the Microids team, and that he is convinced that Cobra lovers will be delighted to discover this new video game”. It remains to be seen now in what form this Cobra video game will come to life. In some comments on Twitter, some expect an open world action game, others a game that looks like Mass Effect with lots of possible scenario choices, while there are also desires for Doom-like, a game of action à la Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, while some more reasonable ones evoke a Metroidvania or a Probotector-style 2D game…
