MH17
The Malaysia Airlines plane was shot down over eastern Ukraine in July 2014. At the time, that area was in the hands of pro-Russian rebels. The Russians Igor Girkin and Sergey Doebinsky and the Ukrainian Leonid Chartsjenko were sentenced to life imprisonment eight years later by the Dutch court.
The chance that they will actually end up in a cell seems small. The three are currently in Russia and that country refuses to extradite them. The fourth suspect, Russian Oleg Pulatov, was acquitted. The court finds his role in the downing of MH17 insufficiently proven.
