Back in Europe for two years and under the Chinese flag, the MG brand has a very aggressive electric strategy. With an SUV, the ZS, and a break, the MG5, at less than 26,500 (ecological bonus included) each, the SAIC Motors group brand is rapidly gaining market share. Its next model, the MG4, should further accelerate its return to the fore, and for good reason, it is a much more popular car format on the Old Continent, a compact.
The compact to succeed the SUV
The future competitor of the WW ID.3 or the electric Renault Mégane is certainly official, but MG has not yet revealed all the details.
The former British motorsport icon has unveiled some subtle images of his next vehicle and quite a bit of technical information, which should arrive in the coming weeks. However, the first visuals make it possible to draw a fairly classic sedan, but not devoid of style. As for the technical aspect, the compact developed under the code name EH32 is quite simply the first of the group to inaugurate a brand new electric platform.
As a result, MG could further improve its offer on the two aspects on which its offer is slightly lacking, namely autonomy and technological equipment on board. These two sections were already improving on the ZS EV that we were able to test, but have a certain margin for improvement.

But to better understand the importance of the MG4 for SAIC, words and deeds are almost more important than the design and the technical sheet. Indeed, the automobile group does not hesitate to describe it as ” world’s first Chinese-designed car “. Above all, unlike its previous models, it should first be marketed in Europe before being sold in China. Admittedly, the compact format is more popular with Westerners, but that says a lot about the new global ambitions of MG and SAIC, its owner.
