Krister Kristensson has died after a period of illness. The Malmö FF legend turned 80.
“One of the biggest has left us,” writes MFF on Twitter.
Krister Kristensson played 626 first-team matches for Malmö FF during the 60s and 70s. He is thus also entered in the history books as the player who has represented sky blue the most times.
In total, Kristensson won seven SM golds and five cup titles with MFF. But now the club is in mourning.
On Sunday, MFF announces that Krister Kristensson has passed away. The legend was 80 years old.
“One of the greatest has left us. Rest in peace, Krister Kristensson,” writes MFF on Twitter.
“Our thoughts are with his family,” the website says.
In the last years, Krister Kristensson had problems with his heart and he also had to amputate half of his right leg after an infection. In addition, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
– There has been so much crap in recent years. The heart could have collapsed while I was out cycling, I found that out from the doctor later. Then there’s this with the leg, Kristensson said in an interview with South Sweden in July 2022.
Krister Kristensson was a board member in Malmö FF between 1995-2010. The merit list also includes 38 A-national matches for Sweden, as well as playing for Trelleborgs FF for a shorter period.
After the active career, he worked as a coach in TFF, Lunds BK and Höllvikens GIF.
