Mexico’s military has taken over the operation of the capital’s international airport. The aim is to stop drug smuggling, illegal migration and corruption.

A year ago, the navy was tasked with managing security. Soon it will also be responsible for everything from passport and customs controls to baggage handling and traffic management.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has said that he plans to let the military manage about ten airports by 2024.
