Mexicos first female president takes office News in brief

The first female president in the history of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum takes the oath of office today, Tuesday.

Sheinbaum, 61, the candidate of the center-left Morena party, received 58.3 percent of all votes in the presidential election held at the beginning of June.

Sheibaum replaces in the role Andrés Manuel Lopéz to Obradorwho served as the country’s president from 2018 to 2024.
