An investigation linked to the suspected kidnapping of ten Colombian citizens led the police to the city of San Luis Rio Colorado, located next to the border with the US state of Arizona.
In one building in the city, not ten, but 113 people from 13 different countries, including Honduras, Cuba, India and Afghanistan, were found. Five suspects were arrested in connection with the crackdown. In April, 63 kidnapped migrants were released in the same area.
Hundreds of thousands of migrants who try to cross the border to the United States every year are at risk of being kidnapped and extorted by criminal gangs operating in the border areas.
