Meta intends to improve privacy in Instagram. The social network’s messaging will soon benefit from end-to-end encryption and access to discussion history can be locked, to avoid indiscretions.
Meta continues its efforts to make its various platforms as secure as possible. Thus, WhatsApp has just introduced a function allowing you to send a voice message which is automatically deleted once it has been listened to, as well as an option to hide your confidential discussions using a secret code (see our article). On the Messenger side, default encryption has finally arrived for individual conversations and calls. Stay Instagram. Meta announced last August that it was working to apply this technology to the social network’s messaging – this means that no one, not even Meta’s teams, will be able to access the content of messages, except the sender and recipient. According to developer Alessandro Paluzz (aka alex193a), who posted several screenshots on chat history. An additional layer of protection to ensure user privacy and confidentiality, preventing unauthorized access to communications content.
Instagram privacy: we can control access to conversation history
To be sure that no one accesses the chat history, which accumulates over time, three new methods will be proposed to protect conversations, so that we can access them even if we change device. Thus, it will be possible to create a six-digit PIN to access chat history on any phone or computer. For users on Android, storing a key in Google Drive will allow automatic access on any Android device linked to the account. Finally, the “Access to only one device” option will limit the chat history to the current device – it will be automatically blocked on the others, which can however pose a problem if you change smartphones for example.
Alessandro Paluzz also reposted screenshots for other upcoming features, such as message editing for a limited time, ephemeral messages – which already exist on WhatsApp and Messenger – which will automatically erase after twenty -four hours, as well as deactivating the “seen” tag in a conversation – practical for ignoring a contact without them being aware. Please note, no deployment date has yet been communicated, so you will have to be patient.
