Messenger will integrate a shortcut system similar to that of Slack collaborative messaging. Meta has just announced the arrival of “Shortcuts” in Facebook instant messaging. This new feature allows certain actions to be performed by entering a specific command which will then execute the defined action associated with it.
If it is already possible to mention participants using the at sign @ followed by the name of the person, Messenger introduces shortcuts @everyone (for everyone) and /silent (for silence). Thus, by using the mention @everyone, users of the iOS and Android mobile applications can obtain the attention of all participants in the conversation who will each receive a notification telling them that you have sent them a message.
As for the shortcut /silent, it allows you to add a message in a discussion in a silent way. If you’re talking to your friends at night, or when they’re in a different time zone than yours, the /silent command will allow you to send a message without any notification sounding to your recipients.
Meta said the rollout of these shortcuts is ongoing and new shortcuts will be added over the next few weeks to Messenger.
On iOS, for example, you will soon be able to quickly add a GIF to a conversation using the /gif shortcut, or even integrate kaomojis, these emojis made up of special characters (¯_(ツ)_/¯), by entering the commands /shrug and /tableflip.
