Messy start for Liseberg – about 50 annual tickets already withdrawn

The season is young, but Liseberg has already been forced to act against the mess.
In just over 20 days, the theme park has pulled in 50 gold passes – almost exclusively from teenagers.
You may be a generation that has not learned to queue, says Mårten Westlund, head of communications for Liseberg.

The pre-season at Liseberg has been messier than usual, somewhat The Gothenburg Post was the first to report on. At the same time, Mårten Westlund believes that with 190,000 visitors, of which 17,000 have annual passes, it is only a small number who have broken the rules of order.

– But yes, it is a little more than what we are used to. This type of incident is not entirely unusual, but this year we have lowered our tolerance level for bad behavior in the park, he says and continues:

– Priorities 1, 2 and 3 are always that the guests who come here with the goal of having a lovely and fun day in the park, they should get it.

Messing with queues

The main order problems occur in connection with queues, that young people simply crowd in front and are rude to other visitors. Mårten Westlund describes a queuing problem that may be a result of the pandemic.

– Perhaps you are a generation that has not learned to queue. If you’re a teenager today, you’ve never really had the chance to be outside and learn how the queuing thing works. Then you might skip the queues and not think it’s such a big deal, but it is a big deal, he says.

At Liseberg, between twelve and 18 uniformed guards work daily, as well as a number in civilian clothes, to counteract and act against disorderly groups and individuals. ‘

They are now working more proactively than before and have therefore been able to see “a small break in the trend” with less mess last week.

“Adventuring Safety”

The park can either freeze an annual pass for weeks, months, or revoke it entirely, depending on the severity of the situation.

– When it is of a more serious nature, it is mainly about doing things that endanger the safety of our attractions. You stand up or behave in a way that can have consequences for others. We have absolutely no tolerance there. Then no matter what passport you have, says Mårten Westlund.

– When you buy an entrance ticket or boarding pass, you have entered into an agreement with us that you behave in a decent way towards your surroundings. If you don’t do that, then we will deal with it one way or another, he continues.

In addition to the order problems, a number of other incidents have led to police reports. Including violations and robberies.
