Mercedes, BMW, Skoda, Toyota, or Nissan: our 10 most anticipated electric cars in 2022

Mercedes BMW Skoda Toyota or Nissan our 10 most anticipated

Volkswagen ID.Buzz

  • In two words : 70 years after the launch of the Combi, VW is preparing to play the same melody again. The German manufacturer will bet on the nostalgic fiber, of course, but not only. Available in van or utility version, this electric iteration will carry a 150 kW (201 hp) motor and batteries ranging from 48 kWh to 111 kWh (up to 550 km of autonomy).
  • Why are we waiting : because we all have a hippy side in us that desperately needs to express itself in the midst of a health crisis. But also because the combi, just like the beetle, is one of the most emblematic vehicles in automotive history and its electric resurrection still makes us dream a little.
  • Release date : announcement on March 9, for marketing in October

Skoda Enyaq Coupe

47503ac0b4902c30b90318cad4ea7
  • In two words : Skoda is one of the most interesting manufacturers on the market. Its vehicles based on the same platforms as VW and Seat are sold at a lower price than their equivalents in the same group, for an equal level of performance and at least equivalent equipment.
  • Why are we waiting : after having tested and appreciated the Skoda Enyaq, the first 100% electric model of the Czech brand, we are particularly impatient to see what the evolution of this SUV can give in a much more sporty and aggressive format.
  • Release date : presentation at the end of January, for marketing this summer.

Toyota bZ4x

7e20698518a55e5a9d43c018e5a18
  • In two words : Apart from a name to sleep out, Toyota’s car has everything to mark the coming year. The large family SUV is one of 11 electric vehicles unveiled by the brand, and the first of them to hit the road. Larger than a RAV4, it stands out from the rest of the market with its motor on the front wheels (traction) unlike almost all electric vehicles which opt for propulsion when they do not have a transmission integral.
  • Why are we waiting : because after praising the superiority of the hybrid car, Toyota has finally decided to switch to 100% electric.
  • Release date : already presented, marketing in June.

smart-suv

e84f805ca3b52af32471241818e38
  • In two words : unveiled at the IAAA in Munich last September, this car is the culmination of the ForMore project, a compact SUV concept dating from 2005 that Smart never completed.
  • Why are we waiting : because Mercedes has established itself as Tesla’s most serious rival when it comes to autonomy, and the mere idea that its “entry-level brand” benefits from this know-how is a hell of a promise.
  • Release date : second semester.

Renault Megane E-Tech Electric

d3c9101b74e669b0e4a5c361caa16
  • In two words : ten years after the Zoé and a few months after electrifying its Twingo, Renault is getting down to business. The electric Mégane E-Tech is the vehicle that is supposed to embody the total electrification of the brand which must be completed before 2030. The challenge is twofold for the diamond brand: not to be left behind in the race for electric, and to impose as a benchmark in the compact segment.
  • Why are we waiting : because we saw it at the Munich show, it’s beautiful, and what’s more, it promises a real revolution in the cabin with a system signed Google.
  • Release date : just marketed, the 100% electric Mégane E-Tech should land on the roads in the next few days.

Mercedes EQE

e64578c8b3915e25ef08b91c81c
  • In two words : if for Mercedes, the EQS was the answer to the Tesla Model S, the EQE should attack head-on the star model of the American, the Model 3. With its neat design and a futuristic interior equipped with the Hyperscreen, its huge screen, the EQE has something to compete with. As for autonomy, it oscillates between 545 and 660 km, depending on the configuration. In other words, Tesla’s angles of attack are reduced.
  • Why are we waiting : because we have seen the EQS at work and the electric version of the E-Class is likely to be of the same ilk.
  • Release date : this summer.

MG5

244cf8b0a5eb3c58f316ef647fe59

In two words : MG is the “small” manufacturer that is rising at the moment. Its next novelty is none other than the MG5, a European version of the Roewe i5 that SAIC, MG’s proprietary brand, is already marketing in China. In fact, we already have an idea of its performance as well as its autonomy (400 km), but what we expect for 2022 is a new design and, above all, a price that promises to be very attractive.

Why are we waiting : because the MG5 will be the first electric station wagon on the market. And because a nice station wagon has more allure than a big SUV.

Release date : February.

Nissan Ariya

6742394719144a960318a100b0a22
  • In two words : fruit of the eponymous concept, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show 2019, the Nissan Ariya is the second 100% electric model of the Japanese brand after the essential Leaf. It is a sporty-looking SUV that will have three trim levels, one of which will provide it with a 290 kW (395 hp) engine for 600 Nm of torque.
  • Why are we waiting : because when it comes to electric cars, Nissan often takes a different approach. It was the Japanese manufacturer who had developed the One Pedal system which made it possible to recover autonomy by raising the accelerator pedal. The Ariya also has its share of innovations including a liquid cooling system for the batteries. In short, we look forward to being surprised.
  • Release date : March.

BMW i7

6ee4f9a4d95fc89d91924f98a53b2
  • In two words : BMW’s electric offensive is well underway. The Munich manufacturer started the year with two impressive models, the i4 and the iX. It should end the year on a high note with a monster, the i7, an electric version of its 7 series.
  • Why are we waiting : because we tested the i4 and it seems obvious that BMW does not mess with its sedans. But above all, because we want to witness the front row seat to the match of high-end electric sedans between the i7 and the EQS.
  • Release date : Presentation in the spring, for a launch before the end of the year.

Audi A6 e-tron

ea927a232ecb9ca096549b6c1c7e1
  • In two words : Of the future A6 e-tron, we only know the concept unveiled in 2021 in Shanghai. For now, the only certainty concerns the platform on which it will be developed, the famous PPE shared with cousin Porsche. But this suggests a particularly flamboyant power/autonomy combo. Judge for yourself: 350 kW for the two engines (475 hp), 800 Nm of torque, and 700 km of autonomy.
  • Why are we waiting : Because in 2021 Audi brought probably the most impressive electric car to market with the e-tron RS. Even if the A6 should not touch the same heights, it will remain more “accessible”, at least more general public.
  • Release date : Presentation in the fall, launch date unknown.
