“Men’s violence against women is connected to gang violence”

There is a clear connection between men’s violence against women and gang violence, says the head of intelligence, Jale Poljarevius.
– I am almost certain that the young individuals who see their mother get hurt more easily tend to be recruited into gang structures, he says
News morning Saturday.

The number of shootings is decreasing for the second year in a row. But we are still at a high level, and much more needs to be done to stop the recruitment of young people, says Jale Poljarevius, head of intelligence at police region Mitt.

IN News morning Saturday he highlights a “serious social problem” – namely men’s violence against women. Something that the intelligence chief believes is connected to the gang violence.

– Many times we work in culverts with explosions, shootings, violence, finances and various things. But there is an interesting, if terrible, phenomenon that affects many in society. It is men’s violence against women, says Poljarevius.

Domestic violence leads to gang crime

According to Poljarevius, there is a clear connection between violence in the home and young people’s path into crime. He believes that young people who witness domestic violence are more easily drawn into gang crime.

– The young individuals who live in such conditions – where you see your mother get very bad because of the father’s severe violence, or perhaps even deadly violence – tend to be more easily recruited into gang structures and to begin to use violence themselves and the like, says Poljarevius.

“An alarmingly large number” of young people are involved, believes Poljarevius. Because it is important to connect these parts in the police’s work against gang crime, he believes.

– We work for the purpose of crime prevention in the zones where we know that there is violence in the family, he says.
