Joensuuainen Mika Törrö aspires to the title of the strongest man in the world. He has already been crowned Finland’s strongest for the fourth time in a row.
– Yes, this has always been such a personal goal that you get invited to the World’s Strongest Man competition, Törrö says.
Törrö is the first Finnish representative in the World’s Strongest Man competition in nine years. All in all, he is the twelfth Finn to pursue the title.
The competition will be held in California, USA at the end of May. Preparations for the competition are in full swing, Mika Törrö says.
– Workouts are at best twice a day, eating and resting must be carefully considered. I am also starting to prepare for the time difference. There, the first part of the race is in the morning at Finnish time. Normally I would be in a full sleep at the time, so I have to get used to the body.
Preparing for the race includes honing techniques, creating a strategy, and physical training. Preparing takes up almost all the time, when even social interactions have had to be kept to a minimum.
Tension is relevant
Although taking part in the competition is a long-term dream for Törro, at least he is not yet excited about his performance.
– That’s what excitement is all about. I’ve learned to keep it to a minimum so you don’t have time to think about it for days and at worst paralyze yourself from the excitement, she says.
Mika Törrö thinks that the excitement will start to creep into his body when he leaves for California on the 20th. He usually only gets excited on race day or the day before.
– However, now there is a whole new race I have never been to before. Of course, it adds to the mood.
The desire to show the world what a Finnish man is made of drives him forward in the race.
The last time a Finn won the World’s Strongest Man competition was in 2000. This year, thirty participants from all over the world received an invitation to the competition.
