In the common imagination, we tend to believe that menopause slows down the intimate relationships of the women concerned. According to a recent study carried out on the occasion of World Menopause Day, this is not the case: more than seven out of ten women do not feel any particular change.
Every year, on October 18, World Menopause Day is celebrated. On this occasion, DisonsDemain, the dating application dedicated to singles over 50, reveals the results of a study on how women experience this period.
Stopping periods: a liberation for many women
In its questionnaire, the study asks women about menopause, which 88% consider to be “too often talked about in a negative way“. However, for many women, this stage of life represents a liberation, with 36% of them having a “relief of no longer having to worry about contraception or unwanted pregnancies“, a mental burden that often falls on women’s shoulders.
Regarding the absence of periods and pre-menstrual syndrome, 69% cite them as “advantages”.
What is the impact of menopause on women’s sexuality?
Among the symptoms feared by women at menopause, for 58% of them, there is weight gain and just behind, for 55% of respondents, hot flashes. On the other hand, this period does not seem to be a real obstacle to their love life, since 56% of respondents explained that menopause had no impact on their love life. Even more: 72% of the women surveyed believe that their intimate life has not changed, before or after menopause.
Menopause and its symptoms, real challenges for women’s sexuality
Finally, according to the SexReports study, carried out by Adam and Eve, an online adult toy store, there are challenges related to menopause that are important to consider. According to their figures and in fact, more than 60% of women suffer from hot flashes and more than 40% report weight gain.
And only almost half of women “confid to feeling the same in their body after menopause, while the other half feel a deterioration in their body image.”
For Adam and Eve,”it is crucial to raise awareness and educate around the sexuality of women over 50″ and “to encourage women to reclaim their desire and pleasure“.
