Prisoners who languished in notorious Syrian prisons for years have been released after al-Assad’s regime fell after the rebels also captured the country’s capital, Damascus.
The Guardian magazine says that the authenticated videos in Damascus show, among other things, how the rebels open cells with dozens of children and women inside. The rebels inform the prisoners that they have nothing to fear.
The rebels have released prisoners in the Sednaya military prison on the outskirts of Damascus, known for torture and executions. Different sources say that the rebels have not yet reached all the underground cell sections.
