That evening, the group of men walked through the Fonteinstraat towards the Meent. Around midnight the gentlemen got into trouble after they got into words with a group of young people. The altercation escalated into an assault, in which two men aged 61 and 53 from Culemborg and Gorinchem were injured. The two were taken to hospital.
