PARIS A two-day outdoor market will take over downtown Paris later this month.
With backgrounds in event planning and business development, Harrison Snyder and Quinn VanMackelberg will stage Memory Lane Market on June 25 and 26 from 1 pm to 9 pm Grand River Street North will be closed between the Paris Home Hardware at Mechanic Street and the CIBC bank at William Street.
“I grew up around the area,” said VanMackelberg, who owns Judy Jean Vintage, a vintage clothing and accessories store at the GEM Marketplace on Grand River Street North.
“There’s a lot of tourists, and it’s such a beautiful area. Once, Harrison came down to visit me at work, and thought we could really do something here and bring a lot of people in.”
Snyder noted that 43 vendors will be attending, some from as far away as Quebec.
“We gave first priority to local vendors, but we have an array of vendors specializing in vintage clothing, street wear, handmade goods and accessories, as well as food and drink vendors,” he said. “It’s predominantly vintage clothing and consumer goods aimed at a younger age group.”
Snyder said vintage clothing offers a sustainable option for consumers. And the price and quality often are better than new, he said.
“1970s fashion is very in,” he observed. “I see a lot of flare bottoms and big collars. People like a good throwback.”
VanMackelberg added that “funky jewelry, handmade bouquets and cute candles in fun shapes” also will be for sale.
“It’s geared toward a younger audience, ages 16 to 30. But we are welcoming everyone.”
