Member of Parliament Hamilton (L): The border runs at Jews

In an interview with TV4 Nyheterna, Riksdag member Carl B Hamilton (L) says that he is critical of Jomshof’s previous statements, but stands behind the party’s decision not to vote him out of the justice committee.
– I think the limit is reached if they were to start speaking in the same way about Jews, and it is not impossible, he says.

There is a storm around Richard Jomshof (SD) after his statements about Islam and the prophet Muhammad.

Within the Liberals, it has been decided not to vote Jomshof off the Riksdag’s justice committee after the statements, something L leader Johan Pehrson explained by saying that they follow the Riksdag’s practice.

Carl B Hamilton, Member of Parliament for L, thinks that Jomshof’s statements are irresponsible.

– It is a monumental irresponsibility to call Muhammad a mass murderer, what are they going to do next time, are the Jews to be accused of something?

“There is an absolute limit”

Despite his criticism, Hamilton stands behind the party’s continued cooperation with the Sweden Democrats, but points out that there are limits to the party.

– I think the limit is that they would start speaking the same way about Jews, and that is not impossible. But there is an absolute limit, says Carl B Hamilton, member of the finance committee.

When TV4 Nyheterna reaches Hamilton for clarification, he replies in a text message: “L cannot live with racist statements about, among other things, Muslims and Jews and especially not about Jews.”

“He is a scandal”

Carl B Hamilton believes that Jomshof’s statements will follow him for a long time.

– He is a scandal. He will have to live with that throughout his political life, that he showed such a serious lack of judgement.

Hamilton, who previously himself sat as chairman of the EU committee and the business committee, says that being chairman entails a special responsibility.

– As chairman, you have a responsibility to keep the working group together.
