Melwin Lycke Holm got to celebrate big today with EC gold.

On Wednesday, there was a big blue-yellow success during the U20 EC in Jerusalem, Israel, with double gold within just a quarter of an hour. On Thursday, it was time again when the great talent Melvin Lycke Holm struck in the best way in the high jump.
Melwin’s success
The 18-year-old made a big impression and touched his personal best by jumping 2.18 meters. So did the Italian Edoardo Stronati but he had more tears and Lycke Holm had to let out all his emotions in a huge rush of joy when it became clear that he had won gold in the U20 EC.

A very nice revenge for the young Swede who comes from a tough time.
– It feels great, I didn’t think it would be this big. I hadn’t planned to jump first, but it’s been a bit crappy this year, so this became a goal for me and I thought that now I’m going to damn well win, says a victorious Lycke Holm to SVT Sport.

Holm in place
Melwin managed the feat in front of the eyes of the trainer and the father Stefan Holm both met in a wonderful victory hug, which you can see below. The 18-year-old also attempted 2.21m, which is the same height his father managed at the same age, and came close but failed.
– I told myself before that I’m not going to stay at this height one more time, so it felt a bit awful, he says to the TV channel, and it was the fifth time in his career that Lycke Holm cleared 2.18.
– I have been incredibly stable this season and it is perhaps stability that delivers gold medals as well.

Even though Melwin Lycke Holm was frustrated during the season because he did not get a real hit in terms of height, it is precisely stability that has been his strength. Earlier this summer he also won SM gold and with a fresh European Championship gold the self-confidence is growing.
