Melwin Lycke Holm reveals the hard times after the SM gold – brutally honest words about father Stefan Holm: “It has affected me”

Melwin Lycke Holm won SM gold in high jump over the weekend.
But now he is forced to admit the trouble that has been.
– It has affected me quite a lot actually, he admits to Expressen.

Swedish great talent Melvin Lycke Holm has jumped 2.20 meters as the best in high jump. During this weekend’s SM in Uddevalla, only 2.15 m was enough to secure a new SM gold.

Holm’s SM gold

In the cold and rain, the 19-year-old showed why he is Sweden’s best high jumper on the men’s side.
– It is clear that I am very happy to win. It is always important to take these SM golds and show who is the best in Sweden, because it is very difficult to become the best in the world if you are not the best in your own country, he says in an interview with Expressen.

Melwin’s father and trainer Stefan Holm also opens up about his son’s effort at the athletics EC.
– Great with a gold. We had hoped for slightly higher heights, but with the weather and the competition, you have to be satisfied with what it turns out to be, says father Holm to the evening newspaper.
– He was disappointed that he did not jump higher because he has been very charged to jump really high here. If it had been 20 plus degrees and there was a break, it could probably have been a bit. At least that’s how it felt.

Melwin on Dad

Unfortunately, there will be no Summer Olympics in Paris for Lycke Holm as he was unable to raise his personal record of 2.20 m during the spring. At the athletics EC in Rome, he missed the final by a hair’s breadth at the qualifying height of 2.21 m.

The year has not turned out at all as the great talent envisioned and his career has also been shaken by a very serious incident. In May, when the father, Stefan Holm, was reported to the police for suspected abuse of a school student.

Now Melwin admits how hard it has been, right after winning the SM gold.
– It was noisy at the beginning of the summer with everything around dad. It actually affected me quite a bit. If you only feel good mentally, you jump well, but then it felt very uncertain about what would happen. Everywhere I looked, it was all about it, there was a lot in the media and I got a lot of questions. I think it affected quite a lot, says the 19-year-old in the interview and then sums up the summer that has been:
– I don’t really think that the results really reflect what I have done in training. It has felt extremely good in training. But you have three prerequisites that you have to set every time. One is the mental, it was the thing that messed up at the beginning of the season for obvious reasons. The second is that you have to be whole and healthy, that’s what messed up at the EC when I had a fever and didn’t feel well at all. Then I still jumped 2.17 there. The third is the weather and that was the thing that did not agree today when everything else agreed.
