“We want strengthen and intensify our dialogue bilateral thanks also to Action Plan between Italy and Germany on which we have reached an agreement”, explained Meloni, referring to a series of priority themes on which greater coordination is needed, such as innovation, research, development of the labor market, social cohesion, ecological growth sustainable, climate protection.

“We are also interested possibility of developing partnerships on the front ofattraction of skilled manpower in selected partner nations of common interest”, underlined the Prime Minister, recalling that Italy is at the forefront with the Mattei Plan for Africa.

“The complementarity between our economic systems emerges not only from size of the exchange – over 168 billion euros in 2022, an absolute record for Italy – but also by the growth in flows, which have increased by 50 billion euros in 3 years”, Meloni recalled, adding “competitiveness and resilience in the manufacturing sector are an essential point of our respective economic policy agendas” and “I believe that also the recent industrial agreement between Ita Airways and Lufthansa is a testimony of how much the interests of our nations can converge on a strategic level.

Meloni and Scholz also faced some European themesincluding immigration and the defense of external borders, but also the hot topic of Stability pact. “We are aware that an open and fruitful dialogue is essential to advance European solutions to the complex challenges we face”, Meloni underlined.

Regarding the Stability Pact, Meloni reiterated that “the old rules are outdated and that you have to find new rules that take into account the competitiveness of our systems at a time when we are called to make many investments”. A new Pact – he added – which “You look a lot at supporting growth” and that it includes “flexible tax rules” and “European investment support”. For his part, Scholz agreed that “fiscal stability, clear rules respected and a common transparent framework” are needed.

“Italy is a reliable partner and friend for us. Within NATO, the G7, the G20 we collaborate with Rome, we find ourselves in agreement and we refer to each other”, concluded Scholz at the press conference .
