Meloni I hope for a more pragmatic Europe capable of

(Finance) – A “different” Europe able to respond to major global challenges with a more approach pragmatic towards citizens and less ideological. This is what the Prime Minister hoped for Giorgia Meloniat the press point in Brussels, at the end of the European Council.

Meloni began by recalling the topics on the agenda of the European Council, recalling that yesterday was the turn of foreign policywhich supported a common position, particularly with respect to the difficult situation of Lebanon. “I spoke this morning with President von der Layen of migratory situation in general”, stated the Prime Minister, underlining that the decrease in flows of the irregulars “shows that the work we have done pgradually produce results“.

In this regard, the President highlighted the debate on resources necessary to face these great challenges. “There is a need for resources”, clarified Meloni, recalling “we know what the debate in the EU on common debt, a proposal supported by the Italian government. Enrico Letta proposes the question of the ability to mobilize private investments to ensure that this capital remains in the European market”.

This is the last European Council of the legislature. When we meet again we will be in a different scenario“, declared the Prime Minister, referring to the now close elections for the European Parliament.

“Despite the work we have done in this year and a half, in which we have tried to change Europe’s priorities or way of seeing some major issues – I am thinking of the issue of migration and of environmental sustainability connected to economic and social sustainability – I hope that when we meet again next time we will be in front of a different Europe, more capable of responding to these great challenges“, Meloni recalled, also citing the challenges of foreign policyfrom the defence of the borders, of thestrategic autonomy and of supply chains.
