Meloni breaks the silence after fascist outbursts

The revelation became public last week. Members of Italy’s fraternal youth union, the National Youth (GN), have been filmed singing fascist songs, making Nazi salutes and making anti-Semitic slurs.

It reveals reporters who have gone undercover in the party’s groups and chat forums. The Prime Minister and also the party leader have been silent – until now.

“In the wrong place”

– There is no ambiguity on my part in that matter, says Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in connection with the EU summit in Brussels.

– Whoever expresses racist, anti-Semitic or nostalgic views is in the wrong place, because those views are not compatible with the brothers of Italy.

At the same time, the prime minister directs strong criticism at the disclosure itself. She questions the journalists’ use of hidden cameras at closed meetings and believes that these are “dictatorship methods”.

It is classic journalism under cover, objects the Fanpage editors behind the disclosure.

Left their records

The fascist overtures have received strong criticism from opposition parties such as the Five Star Movement (M5S) and the Democratic Party. The Greens and the left-wing union demanded that the youth movement be disbanded.

Another revelation came this week where GN members make insulting statements about Jews and dark-skinned people, including in relation to “the Aryan race”.

Two people have had to leave their FDI posts after the revelations.
