Mélenchon “obviously” ready to become Prime Minister
The leader of France Insoumise (LFI), Jean-Luc Mélenchon, affirmed on Saturday that he was “obviously” ready to become Prime Minister if the left alliance won the legislative elections, despite the reluctance of several voices in his camp. “I intend to govern this country,” he declared on France 5, returning to the necessary unity on the left which requires that it be “not a mess, not a bazaar, not the Assembly permanent general, the pia-pia of leftists who spend their time arguing among themselves.
Mélenchon also considered that the European elections had decided in his favor his ideological “divergence” with François Ruffin, whom he considers to be on a “social democratic” line. The latter, according to the LFI leader, “took responsibility for a rupture” by strongly protesting against the decision not to reinvest other outgoing elected officials with discordant voices, such as Raquel Garrido and Alexis Corbière.
Finally, when asked about the suspicions of anti-Semitism hanging over his party, Jean-Luc Mélenchon once again reacted strongly, considering that he had fallen into a “trap”: “It’s not an interview, it’s a trial”, – he judged. “I have nothing to do with racism, I have nothing to do with anti-Semitism, that’s enough now, all this is a pretext to say that La France insoumise is an anti-Semitic organization, in order to encourage the vote National gathering,” he said.

For the formation of his government of “national unity” that he intends to constitute, the one whose party is at the top of the polls assures that it will be composed of “people from the National Rally as well as other political movements”, specifying that the boss of LR Éric Ciotti, who entered into an alliance with the RN, will have “his place” there. In an interview given to the Voice of the NorthMarine Le Pen goes further and does not rule out left-wing personalities being part of the executive: “Yes, because there are executives from these movements who are following the same path as their voters,” says she said.
Several attacks on left-wing activists who denounce the extreme right
Several left-wing activists reported on Saturday attacks attributed to far-right individuals, with a complaint being filed in Gironde, New Popular Front candidates announced in press releases, eight days before the legislative elections. A man carrying leaflets from the New Popular Front declared having received “a headbutt in the mouth” by a man claiming to “support (Jordan) Bardella”, Friday evening in Bordeaux, according to a complaint against that AFP was able to consult. According to this same testimony, his attacker also said “we are going to crush you”.
The environmentalist candidate in this 1st constituency of Gironde, Céline Papin, who is the victim’s ex-spouse, denounced to AFP on Saturday “a release of violence with the soaring scores of the National Rally”. The outgoing environmentalist deputy for Hauts-de-Seine, Sabrina Sebahi, also assured in a press release that “activists” of the National Rally had “insulted and threatened an elderly New Popular Front activist” on Saturday in Nanterre, asserting that a complaint would be filed.
For Marine Le Pen, the comments made by a couple of RN voters in the program “Envoyé Spécial” are not racist
The Montargis public prosecutor’s office announced on Friday the opening of an investigation after becoming aware of “discriminatory remarks” in a television broadcast.Correspondent broadcast the day before. The extract from the report shows a white couple of National Rally supporters covering their neighbor, Divine Kinkela, a black caregiver, with racist remarks. The latter testifies to suffering monkey cries and insults like “bonobo”, before her neighbors, whose garden is decorated with a poster and RN campaign caps, insult her in front of journalists. The wife of the neighboring couple works at the Montargis judicial court, the prosecutor immediately requested that this investigation be conducted by the Orléans public prosecutor’s office.
Interviewed by The voice of the North regarding this sequence, in an article published on Saturday evening, Marine Le Pen attacked the program broadcast on France 2, believing that “Correspondent” is an “ultra-politicized far left” program. “Why don’t the media point out that this lady, in obvious neighborhood conflict with her neighbors, is a communist activist and, on social networks, holds beliefs pan-African supremacists?”, adds the ex-far-right MP, candidate for re-election in the 11th constituency of Pas-de-Calais. An accusation which seems to be based on the argument of an article in Boulevard Voltairenotes the regional daily, with reference to an article on the subject published by the far-right site.
Marine Le Pen then considers that the comments made by the couple are not racist, a few hours after the Montargis public prosecutor’s office estimated, in a press release, that under the law “the words and behaviors observed could [ait] take on the criminal qualifications of public and non-public insults of a racial nature, public incitement to discrimination and violence without incapacity of a racial nature”. “The question is whether “go to your niche” is not a popular expression of people who hate each other. Is this racist? I myself can say that about my friends! You are the one who draws the conclusion that it is racist because of the victim’s skin color. That’s scandalous,” says Le Pen.
