The fight for pure survival: With a robot named Rogue you take on the fight against the Draktor – an alien species that has already wiped out 99.9 percent of humanity. So the survivors know how the 0.1 percent of bacteria that always survive the cleaning spray feel and promptly start a desperate attempt to recapture the earth.

In the real-time battles, you go out from a chase perspective using melee and ranged weapons to kill smaller Draktor en masse. However, in each mission there is at least one particularly strong and much more impressive boss that requires significantly more firepower and tests your skills.

Impressive Combat Skills: This is where your previously installed skills in the Mech come into play! Not only are they particularly strong, but they are also repeatedly highlighted through short cutscenes. The reward for victory is lots of new equipment that will allow you to become even stronger and tackle even more dangerous missions!

The most formidable bosses

Small skirmishes and tough boss fights: The normal story missions, which last ten to 15 minutes, are just the preliminary skirmishes with which you prepare for battles against the most powerful opponents, which can last 30 minutes or longer.

These include colossi like a titan that doesn’t even fit on the entire screen, a dinosaur or a group of three enemy mechs that fight in the style of the ancient samurai!

Good preparation is everything: In order to keep the upper hand here, it is not enough to simply use increasingly better weapons. Rather, you have to coordinate your equipment and the settings of your Rogue.

You do this in an extensive customization menu, in which you screw together your robot yourself from many individual parts. Starting with the torso with head, arms and legs, through the weaponry to the internal configuration that determines values and skills.

As hard as you want it: You can tackle the missions at different levels of difficulty. The simplest ones won’t cause you any problems, the highest ones are intended for enthusiasts who have carefully analyzed the game mechanics and built their perfect rogue.

3 years of content in one fell swoop

More than a hundred hours of fun! The first part was released in Japan in 2021. Wired is the third entry, but is intended as a complete package. It contains all the content and also the story of the two predecessors Megaton Musashi and Megaton Musashi Cross. This gives you a game that will keep you entertained for over 100 hours!

Multiplatform in every sense: In addition, it is not only released in German, but can also be played on the PC for the first time alongside the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and PS5, including support for the Steam Deck.

And thanks to crossplay, everyone plays together. Cross-Save, on the other hand, ensures that you can continue to use your save on any platform.

The tough fight for the world championship

The German team poses before the fight.

To introduce the game, the developer invited people to a PvP tournament in Tokyo, in which eight countries competed against each other and fought for the world title – including Team Germany!

This is how PvP mode works: In the game’s PvP mode, called Colosseum, teams consisting of three players each compete against each other. Every successful kill deducts points from the opponent, which are credited to your own team. This creates an exciting tug of war in which you can turn the tables and fight back at any time.

Customization and Item Drops: Adapting your own mecha remains an important aspect here too. However, you have to be careful: the more points your Rogue is worth, the more points you lose if you die virtually. However, you will only find the strongest weapons and attacks in boxes during the match itself.

The excitement of PvP mode in action

After the draw, the first four matches were determined. These were held one after the other and immediately showed how exciting the game’s PvP mode is.

  • Italy versus USA
  • UK vs Spain
  • Japan versus France
  • Germany against China
  • You can watch the entire qualifying games for yourself:

The fight against China was not easy. After the home team was able to keep up well at the beginning, the opposing team quickly hit back. But Team Germany didn’t give up and fought back with all their might! It became clear how humanity must feel in its fight against the Draktor.

Adaptation is half the battle: It quickly became clear how much emphasis the game places on customizing the mecha. Team Germany mainly went into battle with equipment that countered melee combatants. In the initial practice rounds, 80 percent of all matches were won, which led to the decision to use this tactic in the tournament.

At the beginning the fight against China was still evenly matched.

Perfect counterattack leads to defeat: However, China relied heavily on ranged attacks and ended up being very lucky with the items on the field. This allowed them to use the very strong invulnerability shield several times, which protects one of the Rogues from any damage for a certain period of time. The result: Team Germany was eliminated in the first game.

Outcome of the World Cup: The outcome of the tournament is still uncertain. You will find out who was successful here on April 30, 2024!

    A plan for the future

The next work of a legend: Level 5 and its CEO Akihiro Hino enjoy a particularly good reputation in Japan, as they have managed to assert themselves on the market with completely new series against heavyweights such as Pokémon and Final Fantasy. An impressive achievement!

DLC could come: With Megaton Musashi they are now making their next attempt in the West. After the three years that it received additional content in Japan, the series should not be over. If it is successful, there could well be more expansions for the game.
