All tanks in World of Warcraft are at it. They were just too strong – and Blizzard is taking action. But it also hits the weak brewmaster monk.
In just a few days, both Dragonflight Season 1 and the World First race will start in World of Warcraft. But the balance of the classes is still a little lacking and tanks in particular are probably a thorn in the side of the developers. They’re just holding up too much right now and don’t want to fall over. In many cases, they don’t even need to rely on healers. That should change now.
What is Blizzard up to? Blizzard wants to significantly limit all tanks in their survivability. It doesn’t matter whether you play a death knight, demon hunter, monk, druid, paladin or warrior. All tanks take almost 10% more damage starting with the weekly reset (December 14, 2022).
Blizzard is weakening the individual passive abilities of tanks, which previously provided damage reduction. This value is reduced by 10% for all tanks, which in some cases even means that the damage reduction from such traits is completely eliminated if the value was previously 10%.
Why is Blizzard doing this? The developers currently feel that tanks are far too strong. Blizzard therefore says the patch notes:
In general, we found that the new talent trees brought a lot of power across all classes and specializations. Talents that used to be exclusive to a talent line, Legendaries, or Covenants can now be selected at the same time. Through our most recent testing, we’ve found that the damage taken by tanks needs to be increased.
While we’re pleased that players are currently enjoying tanking in Dragonflight and we want the role to remain “healthy,” there are some negative effects of tanking that are too powerful and we want to avoid those. We want healers to play a key role in keeping tanks alive, and tanks shouldn’t be able to do large parts of a fight on their own after the rest of the group has already died. […]
We believe that tanks will still feel powerful after these changes and that this will result in a more balanced gameplay experience for everyone.
Community takes it negatively: The changes are not well received by the tanks. While some understand that tanks just live too long right now, the Brewmaster Monk in particular doesn’t. He is currently regarded as the tank that tips over the fastest from the pines. Therefore, there is little understanding that the master brewer is also affected by the nerf. Here are some opinions from the community:
What do you think of the changes? Are they good and useful? Or is Blizzard just messing it up again?
