80s, 90s and the best of today: That is not only the concept of international over 30 parties, but also the cast premise of The Expendables series. On TV: The Expendables 3 makes a huge mistake that has left many fans spooked
In The Expendables 3, the mercenary group around Barney Ross (Stallone) has to deal with ex-member and arms dealer Stonebanks (Mel Gibson), who leads the rough-hewn comrades to the brink of annihilation like no other. As with its predecessors, the Expendables 3 plot is more of a side issue, the important thing is the action. But this is where the producers made a big mistake.
the makers namely reduced the level of bloody violence, to reach a larger audience. Stallone himself explained this to Crave Online (via Cinemablend):
It was a terrible miscalculation[..], [um] to reach a wider audience, but thereby reduce the violence that audiences expect. I’m pretty sure it won’t happen again.
Longtime fans of the series were disappointed by the tame action, which certainly contributed to the theatrical flop of the film. The Expendables 4, on the other hand, should hit the old notch again this year. It will be Sylvester Stallone’s final appearance in the series.
