Meetings on Highway 40 widening project planned MTO

More detailed public consultation on a seven-kilometre Highway 40 widening project in Sarnia is planned sometime this fall, transportation ministry officials say.

A public information center is planned, where details about design alternatives for the widening project between Indian Road and around Wellington Street will be shared, provincial government officials said on background.

People also will learn about “impacts to their property,” an official said in an email, noting feedback will be sought on design alternatives.

The ministry is currently in the process of collecting information and developing those design alternatives as part of the preliminary design and environmental assessment process that began last year, ministry spokesperson Stephen Chiang said, noting a meeting with stakeholders is also planned this summer.

Whether the public information center is held virtually or in-person this fall — a date wasn’t provided — will depend on how that stakeholder engagement goes, said ministry spokesperson Tanya Blazina.

General information about the project is available at highway40widening.cawhere people can also sign up for updates from the ministry and contractor GHD Ltd.
