Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

SVT’s team turned their backs on aid worker Tilde Addenbrooke, who was to drop off supplies in Gammalsvenskby.

– We have talked for a long time about being able to go here and visit the village, explains Tilde Addenbrooke.

The name Gammalsvenskby came about in the 18th century, when Swedes from Dagö in Estonia were forcibly moved here. Back then everyone spoke Swedish, today Valentina is one of the few villagers who can still manage it.

When Valentina tells about the liberation, she has trouble finding words.

– Hug, hug everyone who…I can’t tell you.

Gammalsvenskby is located in Kherson Oblast next to the banks of the Dnieper, which until recently was under Russian occupation.

– We were very scared, because we didn’t know what they were going to do, says the village priest about the Russian soldiers.

Hear Valentina from Gammalsvenskby tell about what it was like to live during the Russian occupation.
