It started already last autumn when Gällivarebon was out in the cabin in Vettasjärvi. The shy female fox, who was named Anita, appeared on the farstu bridge both morning and evening.
– She has been a faithful friend all winter. But now I haven’t seen her for a few weeks, says Mats Larsson to SVT.
Anita shows the way to the cottage
He describes the red fox as a puppy, and on forest walks Anita has accompanied him and shown the way back to the cabin.
– She bangs before and I after.
Because it is a wild animal, he has allowed her to be precisely wild. Well almost.
– She hunts rodents and other animals. But of course, if she looks hungry, the bride has had a piece of sausage, he says.
Hoping for a whole fox family
Since Anita has not been seen for a while, Mats suspects that the female is out on another hunt. The red fox’s mating season ended in March and the gestation period is up to 58 days.
Do you think there might be a visit from a whole family of foxes soon?
– Let them come! We are good pals, me and the animals, says Mats Larsson.
