Medical student Pim would like to see cum laude abolished: ‘A lot of pressure for that one good job’

Medical student Pim would like to see cum laude abolished

cum laude?

Cum laude means that you graduate with an average final grade of 8 or higher. This can differ per study. For example, in one study an 8 is sufficient for cum laude and in the other the average final mark must be at least 8.25. The literal meaning of cum laude is that you graduated ‘with honors’ as a student. An educational institution can also set even more rules, for example that you must pass all exams and tests in one go.

In addition to cum laude, there is also magna cum laude. Then the student has achieved an average of 8.5. And the highest distinction for programs is summa cum laude. That is if a student has achieved an average of 9 or higher.
