On hole 17, McIlroy had sat in a slightly worse position on the green than Scheffler. The Northern Irishman came close to making the putt, but missed by a narrow margin. However, McIlroy had luck on his side when Scheffler, who continued to have a tough day, missed.

And before the 18th hole, McIlroy was in the lead at -21, one stroke ahead of Im Sung-Jae and Scheffler.

There, McIlroy kept his nerves in check and eventually won by a sort of margin. In doing so, he takes home the breathtaking victory cheque.

It is the third time that 33-year-old McIlroy has won the PGA Final.
