Candidate Ashley Sault received 145 votes, which was enough to win the August 17 byelection.

“Aanii, I’d like to say Chi-Miigwetch to our community and members for the amazing support in this election — both in campaign and vote,” said the newly elected councilor.

“Our community is who we do this for; we are a representation of their voices, so I am eager and excited to have the honor to represent the people in a good way and with a good heart for the next year. Miigwech.”

An official swearing in ceremony for Sault was held Tuesday morning.

Votes were cast by 311 band members. Ken Hughes received 81 votes while Ellen Lorraine Coady received 54 and Luanne Vandecamp garnered 26 votes.

Sault will fill the spot previously held by Bill Laforme, who resigned from the position in April citing personal reasons.
