“It is a genius response from the neighborhood,” says mayor Sharon Dijksma. The mayor of Utrecht is full of praise for the residents of the Ondiep district. Houses with the rainbow flag were pelted with eggs and residents were intimidated. But as a sign of solidarity, more Ondiepers decided to hoist the flag. The COC also praises the action of the residents and hopes that this example will be followed throughout the Netherlands in the event of similar incidents.
