In November 2021, the boy posted a message in group chat ‘Resistance fighters Utrecht’: “Utrecht in revolt, no 2G & no fireworks ban! 26-11-21, 19.30, Kanaalstraat, Be there!!! Bring your mates & fireworks.” He was arrested for sedition and then placed under online restraining orders. The municipality said at the time: “This means that he must refrain from online statements that could lead to disorder in the city, such as calls to disrupt public order.” It was the first time that Utrecht imposed such a ban.
