Japan’s new prime minister, Shigeru Ishiba, proposed last month that Asian countries and the United States form a military alliance to stem China’s influence.
Japan’s new foreign minister Takeshi Iwaya has taken the position of the Prime Minister of Japan Shigeru Ishiban to the proposal for a military alliance between Asian countries and the United States.
According to Iwaya, the proposal, which was rejected by several countries such as India and the United States, could certainly be a good mid- to long-term goal for Asian countries. Right now, according to Iwaya, it is not relevant.
– Maybe sometime in the future, because right now it is difficult to create a mechanism based on multilateral security guarantees in Asia, he said at a press conference today.
When Iwaya was asked if China could be involved in a possible future military alliance, he answered positively.
– It would be best if defense and security cooperation covered all the countries of the Indo-Pacific region, without deliberately leaving any country out of it, he said.
