The swarm ofshooting Stars des kappa-Cygnides is active from August 3 to 25. Its name comes from the constellation of the Swan, from which the meteors seem to arise.
The first observations of these shooting stars were made by N. de Konkoly in 1874. The hourly rate of this swarm is only three, which is little compared to the Perseids. But what makes it interesting is the production of many racing cars of a beautiful color bluish white. In addition, meteors have a speed 25 km/s, which is rather slow.
To observe the kappa-Cygnids, it is necessary to locate the constellation Cygnus above the northwestern horizon, around 3:15 UT. Meteors originate from a point between the dragon constellations and Swan. Pay attention to the presence of a quarter of Moon which might bother you.
