Max Verstappen made F1 history – Valtteri Bottas, after more than five months in the points, admitted to Viaplay a mistake in tire selection

Max Verstappen made F1 history Valtteri Bottas after more

Max Verstappen won the Mexican F1 race in spectacular style. Valtteri Bottas was tenth, but there could have been better than one point.

Red Bull Max Verstappen dominated the Mexican F1 race from start to finish and made sport history. For the Dutchman, who already secured the second consecutive drivers’ championship earlier, this was already his 14th victory this season.

No one else has taken so many wins in one F1 season. Michael Schumacher took 13 victories in 2004. Sebastian Vettel did the same trick in 2013. Of course, this season is the most races in F1 history.

– An incredible result. The pace was really great, Verstappen commented in the track interview after the race.

He drove a Mercedes in second place in the competition Lewis Hamilton before driving Red Bull in its home race Sergio Perez.

Valtteri Bottas started the race from the sixth grid, but immediately lost a few places in the opening lap and fell to eighth.

The final ranking was tenth. Bottas driving an Alfa Romeo last reached the points in the Canadian race in June. After a strong early season, Bottas’ scoreless streak had stretched to no less than ten races.

Bottas expected more than 10th place from the race in Mexico.

– A point is better than nothing. It’s already something, Bottas described his mood to Viaplay and referred to a long streak without points.

Overtaking on the Mexican track was difficult and didn’t offer an awful lot to watch.

Bottas’ pace was clearly weaker after the pit stop.

– The second stint was difficult. We couldn’t get the hard tire to work properly at all. Couldn’t get enough heat into them. The soft tire was a bit faster than we thought, Bottas said.

Bottas admitted a mistake in tire selection.

– If you look Daniel Ricciardo speed, should have been soft. But that’s easy to say in hindsight, Bottas said.

Ricciardo, driving a McLaren, overtook the Finn and ran away. The Australian was Yuki Tsunoda seventh despite the crash and a ten-second time penalty.

There are now two races left in the F1 season.

– Hopefully we can keep the same momentum and get sixth place in the battle of the teams. That’s the most important thing this year. We’re trying to focus on that now, Bottas said.

Alfa Romeo is now sixth and four points ahead of Aston Martin, who missed no points today.
