Mattias Ekholm breaks a new record in the NHL – with the most complete hits ever

Mattias Ekholm has reached new heights in Edmonton.
The goal in the 5-1 victory against Vegas means that the Swedish defenseman, who debuted in the NHL in the 2011-2012 season and was traded last year from Nashville, has had his best regular season in terms of goals.

2–0 after 5.38 of the second period was the 33-year-old Mattias Ekholms eleventh hit of the season.

Edmonton is already ready for the Stanley Cup playoffs, while reigning champion Vegas must continue to chase points to be in the fight for the cup.

Vancouver, also ready for the playoffs, picked up 1–3 to 3–3 against Arizona thanks to the Swedes Nils Höglander and Elias Pettersson. Höglander assisted to make it 2–3 and Pettersson then equalized on the power play.

But there was no victory. Arizona’s Logan Cooley decided in numerical disadvantage after 3.51 of extra time.
