Olympic bronze medalist in the 200-meter breaststroke three years ago Matti Mattsson has broken the A limit for next summer’s Paris Olympics.
The Finn was the fastest in the heats of the long-distance World Championships in Doha with a time of 2:09.15, which is below the A limit for the distance. The Finn who swam in the second heat redeemed his place in the semi-finals held later.
Mattsson is the first Finnish swimmer who has broken the A limit for the upcoming Olympics.
In addition to his Olympic bronze, Mattsson is a World Championship bronze medalist (2013 Barcelona) as well as European Championship runner-up from Rome (2022). The Pori swimmer is now chasing the first competitive victory of his career.
However, there is still a long way to go to the Finnish record, as Mattsson’s best swimming time is from the Olympic final in Tokyo, 2.07.13.
Intermediate races are swum in the evening. Mattsson competes in the second round, which starts around 18:48 Finnish time.
